What Makes This CAPTAIN unique?
Captain Dan
I am the owner and only operator of fish further charters. I do not hire out any captains to run my boat for me and I have built this business from the ground up. Many other captains and companies own multiple boats and have multiple captains running trips for them on boats that they do not own. Families, friends and kids are always welcome. I specialize in taking kids out for an experience of a lifetime that will get them hooked forever. I am also a marine mechanic and do all of my own maintenance and electrical work on my boat, Making sure that my boat Is always in top-notch shape and ready for the open sea.
As a
100-Ton Masters Captain with years of experience on 6-pack and larger sport boats, Dan knows the fishery here well and loves to put guests on fish.
Whether it be inshore or offshore, he thrives to give you the best possible experience on the water.
The Latest SPORTFishing REport from Fish Further Charters - San Diego, CA
The fishing finally heated up offshore, so we decided to go the distance and look for pelagics. Until now, I had been pushing the inshore/coastal charters because it was the best fishing around, but once we saw a couple of decent offshore reports, we decided to send it. We went about 50 miles southwest into Mexican waters based on some reports from the previous day. It was worth the run.
Fly-lining live sardines from the San Diego bait barge was the method for all of our mahi mahi and yellowtail. We found a kelp that was loaded with both species and easily captured our limit, then continued to catch and release while we waited for our buddy to arrive to get some for himself.
We worked the binoculars in the tower until we found the lucky kelp paddy that was loaded with mahi and yellows. We heard a few reports of yellowfin tuna caught, so we decided to go try to round off the trifecta with a few of those. It was a long shot, but we got in the zone, saw a couple of birds working with fish under them. Got the trollers out and had a triple hook up in no time. This was our first yellowfin tuna and dorado caught for the year so it’s shaping up to be a banger season. July is early for these fish.
Offshore fishing is often very effective when the fish are around. It can be tough sometimes, but we work very hard up in the tower, staring through binoculars to spot the birds or the kelp patties or the fish on the surface, and often we do. It is very seldom that we strike out, but it is fishing after all.
At one point, when we were fighting one of our last few Dorado, a great white Shark darted under the boat and tried to chase our fish. We tightened up the drag and quickly got it in before the shark was able to get it, even though he was chasing it. What a sight to see.
The most deadly weapon we have aboard offshore is stabilized binoculars. We can see fish, birds, and kelp patties from miles away, and the turn of the tower makes it that much easier to spot them as well. Overall, an absolutely epic day for our first offshore trip of the year. Smiles all around and plenty of meat in the bag.

What makes CAPTAIN DAN get up every morning for another day ON THE WATER?
I have been a captain here in San Diego for about 20 years and in other parts of the country, all my life. I live and breathe to fish, and I love teaching and taking people out who share the passion of being on The ocean, catching fish and seeing the wildlife. It is rewarding for me to see the looks on peoples faces as they are reeling in their catch And pulling fish over the side Of the boat.
What is your favorite type of fishing out of all the tYPES AND aREAS...And why?
Personally, my favorite type is offshore. It’s all about the hunt. There can be a lot of down time while we are searching for the fish, but it's worth it. I keep my eyes glued through my binoculars in my tower, and do my very best to hunt the fish down and get on them. Something as simple as a single bird through the binoculars can put you on the school of a lifetime.
What should be an anglers realistic expectation for ANY day on the water WITH OUR CHARTER with you?
Guests should expect to have a memorable day on the water whether we catch 20 fish or just one. It’s all about the personable experience and spending time together on the water.
In YOUR mind, what is the reason for all the 5-star reviews?
I’m very personable and great with people as well as kids in general. I do this because I love it and people realize that. I give 100% always, no matter how tough the day can be. There are always back up plans to make sure we put some fish in the boat on any type of charter trip. My positive attitude and optimism goes a long way and creating a memorable and exciting experience, no matter the day.
